George Tarjan

George Tarjan was a psychiatrist specializing in child development and mental retardation. He helped form a national network of mental retardation centers during the John F. Kennedy Administration. We was professor emeritus at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine and started the Child Psychiatry Program at UCLA.

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry presents the George Tarjan Award annually to recognize a child and adolescent psychiatrist and Academy member who has made significant contributions in a lifetime career or single seminal work to the understanding or care of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
