K. Charlie Lakin

K. Charlie Lakin, Ph.D. is the Director of the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. Previously, Charlie was the director of the University of Minnesota's Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Living, in the Institute on Community Integration. Charlie has more than 40 years experience in services to individuals with ID/DD as a teacher, researcher, consultant and advocate. He has directed numerous research and training projects and has (co)authored over 200 publications based on that work. Among recognitions afforded Charlie are appointments by President Clinton to the President's Committee on Mental Retardation, the American Association on Mental Retardation's Dybwad Humanitarian Award and the University of Minnesota's Outstanding Community Service Award.
